Start with the role salt plays in the formulation
The phrase 'salt for detergent' does not identify one universal product. Depending on the product and process, sodium chloride may be used to influence viscosity, bulk, ionic strength or processing behaviour. Powder detergent, liquid detergent and soap systems can respond differently, and the correct addition rate belongs to the formulator—not the salt supplier's generic webpage.
State the finished product, process stage and reason for adding salt. A technically useful RFQ explains whether the buyer needs controlled dissolution, a particle-size window, low visible residue, colour control or a specific impurity profile. Do not assume edible appearance or a high NaCl headline proves suitability in a formulation.
Parameters worth putting into a detergent-salt RFQ
NaCl, moisture and water-insoluble matter are the usual starting points. Particle-size distribution can affect flow, blending and dissolution. Calcium, magnesium, sulphate and iron may matter where the formulation, colour or process is sensitive. The buyer should set only the limits that the validated formulation actually needs.
Specify the measurement basis, unit, test method and whether each number is a minimum, maximum or informational value. If colour, appearance or foreign matter is important, define an objective inspection rule rather than relying on words such as premium, clean or best quality.
- NaCl on the agreed basis
- Moisture and water-insoluble matter
- Particle-size range or sieve distribution
- Calcium, magnesium, sulphate and iron where relevant
- Colour or visible foreign-matter rule
- Sample, COA and dispute method
Packing changes handling—not chemical grade
Loose supply has the lowest published goods rate and can suit protected bulk receiving. Fifty-kilogram bags reduce the number of units per tonne. Twenty-five-kilogram bags can support smaller dosing or safer handling rules but create more bags and packaging waste. The chosen format does not by itself define purity or particle size.
Include storage humidity, expected monthly consumption, dosing method, unloading arrangement and delivery PIN code. Salt can absorb moisture and cake when storage and handling are poorly controlled, so the cheapest ex-refinery format is not automatically the lowest operating cost.
| Format | Published starting rate | Typical planning question |
|---|---|---|
| Loose | ₹3,250/MT | Can the site receive and protect bulk material? |
| 50 kg bags | ₹3,950/MT | Can the team handle and stack 20 bags per MT? |
| 25 kg bags | ₹3,950/MT | Does smaller-unit dosing justify 40 bags per MT? |
Qualify with a controlled trial before repeat supply
Approve the written requirement first, then test a representative sample or paid commercial lot under real process conditions. Record the product identity, batch or lot, addition rate, mixing sequence, finished-product result and any handling issue. A trial without those controls is difficult to reproduce.
If the trial passes, attach the approved limits and evidence requirement to the repeat purchase order. Define lot size, certificate frequency, delivery cadence and change control so a new source, process or particle size is not introduced silently.
Buyer questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order on India Salt?
The published catalogue accepts whole-metric-tonne quantities from 1 MT. For larger or repeating requirements, buyers can use the same product page to calculate the goods value and start with a capped deposit.
Are packing and freight included?
Generic packing and loading are included in the displayed product price. Freight is confirmed at actual cost after the order, or the buyer may arrange a transporter. Custom packaging is quoted separately at actual cost.
Is GST charged on salt in India?
Salt under HSN 2501 is listed at a nil GST rate by CBIC. Buyers should still ensure the invoice description, HSN and any bundled services match the actual transaction.
Which salt grade is best for detergent powder?
There is no universal best grade. The formulator should define NaCl, moisture, insolubles, particle size and any impurity limits that produce the required process and finished-product result.
Can the same salt be used in liquid detergent and soap?
Do not assume so. Product chemistry, addition level and process response differ. Qualify the offered salt in the actual formulation and record the accepted specification.
